Angelo, Kilday & Kilduff has made significant investments in hardware and software to help our people organize and analyze information. The purpose of our technological investment is to enhance creativity and improve efficiency, all intended to help us do a better job of representing our clients.
Group Communication
We use a Novell network with GroupWise for both internal and external email. This also provides back-up calendaring of court appearances, depositions, and various deadlines.
Word Processing
We use the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Document Management
We recently invested in Worldox, a sophisticated document management program that allows us to search through almost all documents in the office network. We are using this application to gradually create an internal brief bank, so we can build upon research that has already been performed.
Research
We utilize several sources, including an on-line subscription to Lexis-Nexis, which gives us immediate access to state and federal statutes and case law. Our subscription also includes access to relevant treatises on specific areas of law. We also have the Rutter Group Treatises on California procedure.
Analytical Tools
We have invested in subscriptions to the CaseMap suite for attorneys and paralegals. CaseMap is a group of analytical tools to help us assimilate data and organize documents. We can develop chronologies and analyze evidence, including documents and testimony, to help us draft motions and prepare for trials. Paralegals are specially trained in organizing and coding the materials that go into the CaseMap database. To better utilize this collection of tools, we have invested in dual monitors for secretaries, paralegals and most attorneys.
Billing
To help us accurately account for the time we devote to our cases, we use TABS, a billing program designed specifically for law firms.
The Future
In the near future, we hope to invest in an additional server and software to provide remote access to our network. This will help lawyers use the technology of our office while they are in court, at depositions, or working from home. Later, we will introduce a case management system to add another level of organization to our network.
The goal of these major investments in hardware and software, and the training to properly utilize them, is to help us perform our basic role – to represent our clients effectively and efficiently – with the goal of achieving the best possible results before, during, and after litigation.
