Direct interaction with EEOC in defense of a private employer charged with sexual harassment and gender and wage discrimination; investigation and prosecution of public employee discipline cases involving neglect of duty, sexual harassment, gender discrimination and other misconduct by police officers and firefighters; investigation (including interaction with DFEH) and defense of public entities and employees in FEHA cases alleging sexual harassment and discrimination on the basis of race, gender, national origin, sexual preference, age and disability (ADA and Unruh Civil Rights Act); investigation and defense of public entities and employees in cases alleging retaliation for engaging in protected speech and whistle blowing activities; investigation and defense of private individual, public official and public entity in case involving allegations of police misconduct, conspiracy, and violation of the Rules of Professional Conduct for attorneys; investigation and defense of public entity and public official in case alleging the violation of a peace officer’s rights under the California Peace Officer’s Procedural Bill of Rights Act; investigation and prosecution of complaint on behalf of a woman for sexual harassment and gender discrimination; investigation and defense of public entity and several police officers in case alleging the use of excessive force resulting in the termination of a pregnancy; investigation and defense of a public official in a case alleging deliberate indifference to the rights of two inmates who were murdered in a race riot in a California prison; investigation and defense of a correctional offcier in a case alleging his participation in a RICO conspiracy in a California prison; investigation and defense of two public entities and a judge in a case alleging their participation in a conspiracy to violate the plaintiff’s civil rights; investigation and defense of public entities and officials in land use disputes involving allegations of discrimination against individuals with psychiatric disabilities in violation of the ADA, Unruh Civil Rights Act, Government Code 11135 and Equal Protection Clause of Fourteenth Amendment; investigation and defense of public entity in land use dispute involving allegations of national origin discrimination and violation of Due Process and Equal Protection; investigation and defense of public entity and sheriff’s deputy in case alleging unlawful seizure in retaliation for making a citizen’s complaint against the deputy; investigation and defense of public entity in claims involving allegations of dangerous condition of public property; investigation and defense of a City, its police chief and an officer in a cases alleging national origin and religious discrimination in the arrest and interrogation of a minor.

Law Enforcement
Investigation and defense of numerous cases brought by or against police officers, investigators, correctional officers, agency heads and district attorneys involving alleged violations of FEHA, Title VII and the California Peace Officer’s Procedural Bill of Rights, as well as claims for Malicious Prosecution, Excessive Force, Unreasonable Search and Seizure, Due Process (procedural and substantive), Equal Protection (racial profiling and class of one cases), Free Speech, and related retaliation claims. Investigation and prosecution of disciplinary matters against police officer and firefighters.

Agency Wide Investigations
Investigation and defense of numerous public entities and officials in cases involving alleged municipal customs, polices and practices to deprive individuals of their constitutional or statutory rights, including employee classification policies, arrest and use of force policies and prisoner segregation, security and disciplinary polices.

Level of Representation
Represent or have represented agency heads and high level officials (State Agency Directors, Board of Supervisors members, Mayors, City Council members, Planning Commission members, Sheriff’s, Police Chiefs, Planning Directors, Public Works Directors and Judges). Frequently deal with public employees at all levels to investigate and defend cases.

Testifying in Court
Testified in court as an expert/percipient witnesses in a legal malpractice matter; substantial civil and criminal trial experience in state and federal court requiring the direct and cross-examination of percipient and expert witnesses; substantial law and motion practice requiring presentation of oral arguments to the court.
